USATF MINUTES
2-11-09
The meeting was called to order
at 7:15pm
In attendance:
Bob Fontaine, Yvonne Grimes, Jim Barber, Bill Mongovan, Bob Gemske, Joyce Baiardi, Peter Hawley,
Alan MacDougall, Ron Daniel, Rich Torrellas and Marc Davis
Minutes- Motion to accept the minutes
was proposed by Ron Daniel and seconded by Bob Gemske.
REPORTS
President- Bob Fontaine
reported that our USATF indoor meet is posted on our website. Entrance fee will
be $15 if registered before the event and $20 the day of. The 1500m race will be
an added master’s event.
His report from the national convention- The association workshop- National will
be handling all background checks. From your annual membership fee will come additional
insurance for officials.
Also the pole vault incident that
took place in 2002 is currently in mediation, the trial is set for April.
Membership- Jim Barber reported
that we have members 605. 210 adults and 395 youth
Treasurer- Bob Gemske reported that
our savings and checking accounts have $46,008.44. This is before convention reimbursement.
COMMITTEES
Youth- Bill Mongovan reported that
the youth USATF indoor meet will take place before the adult meet on March 15th.
Registration will be at 8:30 entry fee will be $2. Our outdoor meet will be 6/20/09
Officials- Yvonne Grimes stated
that 2009 is a recertification year. You will need a valid USATF number and have
had worked a USATF meet in the last 4 years. We have 40 officials as of this date.
LDR- Peter Hawley informed us that
there will be a meeting next week in Woodbridge. Bids for the next 2 year cycle
will be taken. Also the Road Race Grand Prix will start 4/4/09.
Master’s- no report
Race walking- Ron Daniel reported
on the various sessions he and Maryanne attended. He will be giving a level 1 race
walk seminar in Texas in March. He also informed us that CT’s Theron Kissinger won
the 2008 National Race Walk Grand Prix. He will be presented with a framed painting
on 2/22/09 at the CT Mall race walk event. A race walk clinic is tentatively scheduled
for 4/19/09.
Sanctions- Alan McDougall reported
that we had 90 sanctioned races last year. 10 so far this year.
Web Master- no report
NEW BUSINESS
USATF/CT outdoor meet- discussion
about making our outdoor meet and JO’s all one meet took place. More discussion
will take place at our April meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Other convention reports
Women’s track and field- Rich Torrellas
reported on various sessions attended. National Indoor Championships will be in
Boston at the end of this month. National Outdoor Championships will be in Eugene
in June and the World Outdoor Championships will be in Berlin in August. He also
attended the international relations committee meeting.
Associations - Marc Davis reported
that he attended the association workshop and came to realize that other associations
are faced with the same problems as us namely sites for meets, Membership fee complaints,
etc.
