Competitive Club Renewal Deadline

The May 1 deadline is approaching for competitive clubs to renew their membership. As stated on the club application, competitive clubs must have their renewal turned in to their Association by May 1. Renewal application received after May 1st by the Association will be charged the $100 late fee. · Please note that the $100 late fee only applies to competitive clubs that are renewing. So new competitive clubs would not need to pay the $100 late fee if registering after May 1. · An e-mail was sent April 21 to all of the 2009 competitive clubs that have not yet renewed for 2010 reminding them about the May 1 deadline and the $100 late fee. In the e-mail, I mentioned to the clubs to disregard the e-mail if they have recently submitted their club application to their local Association and also mentioned that several Associations have implemented earlier renewal deadlines
Important points to share regarding the 2010 membership year.

Welcome to the 2010 membership year! I have a few important points to share as we start the new membership year. The following is from a memorandum received from the National office. Multi-Year Club/Organizational Memberships Clubs/Organizations can choose to register for membership up to 4 years at a time. As stated on the bottom of the Club Application, to maintain current contact information and to properly activate the liability insurance clubs and organizations who apply for multi-year membership must file a membership application, applicable coach/volunteer registration forms, and applicable club practice schedules each year. In addition, multi-year clubs that require 3rd party certificates of insurance must fill out the certificate request on the club practice schedule and pay the $15 certificate fee each year. Processing Memberships in a Timely Manner It’s important that Organizational/Club membership applications and forms are remitted to the National Office in a timely manner. Clubs will be denied the ability to enter or score in National and Regional Championships if they are not in the National membership database. Also delays in receipt of membership applications may result in processing delays for certificates of insurance and/or lack of coverage for practices. The above note is important to remember. Clubs will no longer be allowed to renew their membership on the day of the Regional or National competition. Past practices will no longer prevail.

USATF /CT RACEWALKERS 18th ANNUAL 3 KM INDOOR MALL CHAMPIONSHIP

11/3/2009 2:06 PM
FEBRUARY 22, 2009. WESTFIELD CONNECTICUT POST MALL MILFORD, CT.

Many thanks to Gus Davis and his family for putting on the 18th edition of this well organized, one of a kind Mall race.

A presentation of the National Grand Prix Award was made to Theron Kissinger. In 2008 Theron placed very well in National races and Olympic Trials garnering the highest point total.
Remarkably, Theron did this Mall race just one week after placing second in the National 50K.

Much excitement for the oldest and the youngest in this race:
Theron's son, Taylor, wowed the crowd with fabulous form and a very fast time for a 8yr old.
Charles Boyle, looking nowhere near his 85 years of age, blistered the existing age group record, giving him confidence to officially go for it at the Master's Nationals.

Backgroud/Summary:

Several meets this summer have opportunities for kids to participate in the Racewalk event, many times kids give all the other events a try,  but think that the Racewalk is a odd looking event or it looks too complicated.  Racewalking is an Olympic Event and has been since 1904. It's a technique event that requires skill but it can be easy to learn. Many countries have Racewalking as part of their Track and Field programs, starting the kids when they are young. In some of these countries Racewalking is a big deal. At the World Racewalking Cup, held in Russia in 2008, they had 17,000 spectators!  More colleges now have Racewalking as a scoring event, and a few give combination Track/ Racewalking scholarships.

We want to give the kids in Connecticut a chance to experience the event. The New Haven Age Group Track Club has been nice enough to let us have a clinic at the beginning of their practice at Bowen Filed at 6pm. This will be a beginners Racewalk Clinic focused on helping youth athletes  learn the rules for the Racewalk event.  We will give instructions to the group and then work individually as well.  Hope you  can join us.

(We will also have a brief instruction just before the CT Jr Olympics on June 20

Clinic Instructors: Maryanne Daniel (formerly Torrellas) and Ron Daniel, National Champions, International competitors and coaches of the CT. Racewalkers Club.
