USATF MINUTES

9-9-09

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm

In attendance:  Bob Fontaine,  Will  Graustein, Jim Barber, Joyce Baiardi, Peter Hawley, Marc Davis and Bill Mongovan

Minutes- Motion to accept the minutes  was proposed by Bill Mongavan and seconded by Peter Hawley.

REPORTS

President- Bob Fontaine reported on the association workshop  he attended in Des Moines. Outside consultants were hired to help restructure the organization. The mission statement will be much more concise, there will be decreased layers of accountability and the executive board of directors may have more power in decisions. He discussed the risk management seminar where contracts, waivers etc. were covered. There was a short discussion by the group to possibly bid to host a future workshop in CT.

Membership- Jim Barber reported that we have 1,519 members. 55% youth

Treasurer- no report

 

COMMITTEES

LDR- Will Graustein reported that the Road Race Grand Prix has completed 6of it’s 7 races the last being a national championship in New Haven on Labor Day. The final race will be 9/27 in Niantic with a ½ marathon. The next LDR meeting will be in the beginning of Oct. Bids will be accepted until 11/1/09 for new races in the upcoming year. The Cross Country Grand Prix will begin 11/1/09 with the Sunnybrook 5K in Torrington. Will spoke of the need for a master’s LDR meet as there have been more and more masters competing.

Youth- Bill Mongavan reported that 11/15 will be the CT Cross Country JO championship in Litchfield. The regionals will be in Augusta Maine 11/22 and the nationals in Reno on 12/12. Bob Fontaine reported for Yvonne Grimes that the youth track meets she held in Bethel for age 8 to those in 6th grade were very successful with many participants.

NEW BUSINESS

October will be our annual meeting. The budget will be voted on. Convention delegates will be determined and the board positions will be up for election.

 

OLD BUSINESS

Bob Fontaine reported that our outdoor meet on 6/20 worked out well with the combined youth and adults. We will be considering other sites for future meets Litchfield HS has expressed interest. Middletown HS may also be available. We have been rotating master’s events. There was some discussion of having a masters division in all events. Registration was still very time consuming with multiple issues.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm

The next meeting will be Oct. 14, 2009
