Attendance- Fontaine, Grimes, Barber, Hawley, Graustein, Baiardi, Gemske, Miller, Torrellas, Young.
The meeting was called to order at 7:25 P.M.
Motion to accept minutes was proposed by Hawley and seconded by Barber.
AGENDA
President- Bob Fontaine stated that our USATF-Ct. sponsored meet will be June 26th. Discussion followed on how to increase our numbers of participants. Ideas included having the event earlier in the season, trying to include some college athletes or possibly combining it with the CT J.O’s.
Vice-President- no report
Treasurer- Mark Young reported that our NOW account was $6,137.16 and our IMA account $10,874.66. Payment to national for March was $3,326.64 for registrations.
Membership- Jim Barber reported that there are now 863 members of USATF/CT, 416 being youths.
AREA CHAIRPERSONS
LDR- Will Graustein reported that the Grand Prix roadrace schedule has started with the 3 mile Bunny Boogie in Darien. Winner Mary Zengo will go to the Friehofer’s race with most costs covered.
The next AADP race is the Hartford 10k in July followed by the 2nd race of the Grand Prix, the Quasey Loop in Middlebury. The Branford 5 mi. race will be 6/20/04.
The latest LDR meeting was earlier this evening. The new organizational breakdown seems to be working well.
Mark Young reported that his own former student Kate O’Neil is now the first place female in the country in the 10k with a time of 31.34.
RACEWALKING- Marianne Torrellas reported that there will be a racewalking clinic on 5/16/04 from 1-2pm in Clinton. Also the eastern regional championship 10k racewalk will take place on 7/25/04 during our own USATF/Ct. outdoor meet.
MASTERS- No report
OFFICIALS-Yvonne Grimes reported that our certified numbers are up with the 49 trained at the officials clinic in March and that she plans to make the clinic an annual event.
WEBSITE- Patti Miller reported that our website is up to date but she needs more interesting info to post.
Discussion followed regarding the accepting of advertising on our site. It was proposed that a committee be set up to come up with a policy for the advertising. It was decided that any interested parties contact the web address rather than post a price per page or any part of a page.
OLD BUSINESS
Non-profit status- Will Graustein reported that he gave the articles of incorporation to attorney Moeler. Mark Young needs to fill out paperwork from the last three years income statements and submit them for consideration.
Indoor championship prize money- Mark Young to make out checks and send to Bob Fontaine for mailing.
Youth summer meets- Patty Miller stated that her Ct. Track Club is to host a youth meet. Probable date 7/17/04. Definate date will be posted on our website. Yvonne Grimes reported that the Bethel youth meets will be the last two Wed. in July and the 1st two Wed. in Aug. They include 3 year olds to 8th
NEW BUSINESS
Upcoming meets- Bill Mongovan reported that the USATF/CT Outdoor Championships will be 7/25/04 at SCSU. Featured master’s events will be shotput, LJ, 100m, 400m and the 3000m races. The Ct. J.O. meet will also be at SCSU on 6/19/04 Regionals will be in Maine on July 9, 10 amd 11.
Sites and budget costs- Bob Fontaine stated that there will be more discussion on this at our Oct. meeting . Yvonne Grimes has contacted some schools regarding the use of their facilities but more info is needed for them to come up with a price. Danbury H.S. was very interested in hosting our events.
Direction of organization- Bob Fontaine stated that he thought that the featuring of masters events at our meets is a success and that the expanding of the LDR committee seems to be helping. Racewalking and youth meets are growing. He proposed a possible August meeting to discuss the above. Members of this board will be notified of the date.
