USATF MINUTES

9-9-10

The meeting was called to order at 7:10pm

In attendance:  Bob Fontaine, Bob Gemske, Bill Mongovan, Yvonne Grimes, Joyce Baiardi, Will Graustein, Peter Hawley, Jim Barber,  Brian Williams, Darrelll Brown, Major Ruth,  Sasha Benjamin and Marvis Brown, Maryanne Daniel and Ron Daniel.

Minutes- Motion to accept the minutes, with the correction of Bill Mongovan in attendance was proposed by Major Ruth and seconded by Jim Barber.

REPORTS

President- Bob Fontaine stated that our outdoor championship went well. Membership was increased by 288. Mark Young from Yale announced his retirement. Irv Black, a long time presence in USATF/CT, passed away. There was discussion of different ways we may remember him. More to follow next month. Bethel HS track facility should be complete in about a month.

Membership- Jim Barber reported that we have 1,537 members.

Treasurer- Bob Gemske reported that we presently have $78,726 in our two accounts. Tax filing is now caught up to date.

COMMITTEES

LDR- Will Graustein reported that the New Haven 20k race was run over Labor Day weekend. The Niantic ½ marathon on 9/26 will complete the road race grand prix season. The cross country grand prix will be a 3 race series starting with  the Sunnybrook 5k in Torrington followed by the age before beauty 5k on 11/14 and the Hartford track club’s 8k race on 11/20.

Youth- no report

Officials- Yvonne Grimes announced that officials are needed for 2 cross country championships on 10/29 and 11/13. Contact her if available.

Master’s- no report

Race walking- Maryanne Daniel reported that there will be a 10k state championship on 11/14 in Clinton. Information will be posted on our website. At the master’s national championship Maryanne placed first in her age group and set a new record time.

Sanctions- Bob Fontaine reported for Alan McDougal that we have 88 sanctions so far. This is slightly greater than this time last year.

Web Master- no report.

AAU- Major Ruth stated this is the beginning of the AAU’s enrollment period.

OLD BUSINESS

Outdoor meet- Bob Fontaine stated that pre-registration using coach O went fairly well for JO. The meet came out with a small loss, but we have to remember our meet is a service to our organization. We may consider selling shirts at our next event.

NEW BUSINESS

Bob Fontaine stated that we need to post our financial report to maintain compliance with national.

Level 1 coaching school- We have an offer from a man who is willing to put on a coaching school for our association. Several time periods were discussed. He will help with site selection, hotel reservations and speakers. Different sites were suggested by the group. More discussion next month.

JO cross country championship will be 11/14. Sub bantams will also have to enter through coach O.

The budget will be discussed at the next meeting
