USATF/CT Minutes: Apr 12, 2000

ATTENDANCE: Doug Black, Diana Gladden, Bill Mongovan, Ed Parrot, Ken Platt, Maryanne Torellas, Mark Young

MINUTES: Minutes from the meeting of Feb 9th were accepted

TREASURER: Mark Young reported that as of 3/28, we had $11,203.84 in the IMA/Money Market and $5759.02 in the NOW. He described how the new forms for tracking deposits and expenditures are working well.Ed Parrot handed out tentative 1999 Year-End financial reports and YTD 2000 reports. Mark also explained the "passthrough" column on these reports, which is money that is deposited into our account but actually reflects money paid to other parties. One example of this is the membership stickers, whereby we pay the national office $5.50 per member in advance which we then collect as part of each membership fee. This distinction is important for tax purposes.

MEMBERSHIP: Doug Black is still looking for someone to take over the membership functions. He reported that we have 896 members, about 190 less than last year at this time. Part of the shortfall may be in the fact that we have not received any memberships from the national office. We might have received as much as 100 more memberships, except the national office has not successfully managed to download members with their new software. This would still leave us maybe 100 members short. This might be explained by athletes now being aware that the New York marathon no longer requires memberships.

SECRETARY: Ed Parrot reported that the number of sanctions has increased slightly, but the increase is statistically insignificant at this point.

LDR: Ed Parrot reported that the 1st 2 grand prix races were a success - the indoor meet had our largest turnout ever, and the new 15K in Bridgeport was well-received and had several national caliber masters performances. Also, Dana Parrot and Sherry Christoff represented CT at the Olympic Trials in February.

ATHLETICS/YOUTH: Bill Mongovan indicated that the indoor meet was successful. The J.O. Outddor meets will be on 6/11 and 6/17. Region I will be 6/23-6/25. We are still looking for someone to host the Junior Olympic cross country. Also, Kevin Grant is progressing with planning the regional meet outdoors. It will be held on the last day for obtaining an Olympic Trials qualifier, so we may get some athletes attempting to meet the standard. Maryanne pointed out that the Race Walk should be a 5000m, not a 3000m.

OFFICIALS There was a long discussion about officials at the regional meet and about payment of officials in general. We will ask Bob Fontaine to contact Kevin Grant about the outdoor meet.

RACEWALKING: Maryanne Torellas reported that the mall race in Milford was a success. Some people from the race came to the indoor meet as well. Performances from the meet got a lot of press in Maine, because several Maine athletes did well. A 10K USATF/CT championships will be held sometime in the fall.
