News from 2003
CT Track & Field Athlete, Anna Norgren-Mahon finishes 7th, Hammer, at World Championship
by Bill Mongovan
Anna Norgren-Mahon finished 7th in the women's Hammer with a throw of 68.45m. Anna trains at SCSU with Bill Sutherland and holds the American record for the event. She attended Stamford HS and the University of Vermont. She was also a very good swimmer in HS and did some track but little throwing until college. Now, under the tutelage 2004 USATF-CT Indoor Championships of Bill Sutherland she has blossomed. Last year Anna married Sean Mahon and they live in Orange and teach at Amity Regional where Sean also coaches. The coach of the USA women throwers at the Worlds is Bonnie Edmondson of Willimantic. Bonnie attended ECSU and is truly one of the fore-mothers of women's Hammer in the US. Bonnie was throwing the hammer long before it was really recognized in this country and she kept it alive until it was ready to be accepted. She also chairs the women's development Hammer program for USATF.
