Racewalking is a Track and Field Olympic event and has been since 1908. It’s a technique event that requires skill but it can be easy to learn. By using the Racewalk form, a walker can become much more efficient and go faster with the same amount of effort. As a fitness tool, it targets the core, particularly the oblique abdominals and upper thighs. A runner converting to racewalking will reduce the impact to the body by 75% while maintaining the intensity.
The clinic will explain and demonstrate the racewalk technique, we will then work individually to perfect the form. Info will be given on what type of workouts to do for the fitness desired.
Benefits:
- Can be done at any speed.
- Racewalking is easier on your joints, yet allows for as much intensity as you wish.
- Smooth rolling style that will enable more speed than ordinary walking.
- Use it to cross train for running, strengthens hamstrings and upper body with low impact.
- Burns more calories than running at the same speed.
Clinic given by Maryanne and Ron Daniel- National Champions, international competitors and coaches of the CT. Racewalkers Club. Call 203-215-6301/email – ctracewalk@sbcglobal.net for more info.
